The increased usage of antibiotics in animal food production is becoming a major problem worldwide that could yield and increase in fatal consequences. If the fact that giant feedlots are inhumane, cruel, and give rise to poor quality nutrition is not enough to make individuals buy local, organic meat, is the fact that death is a risk enough?
Part 1: Proposal/presentation of additional information to be taught in health class; focus on importance of dietary fats, protein, and caloric intake. Put information in a form that would be interesting to students.
Part 2: Proposal/presentation for edible gardens at the new high school. Enlist help from horticulture teacher. Just eat it. Not just because its immensely good for you and one of the most amazing super-foods that was consumed by our most recent healthy antecedents. It tastes wonderful.
Just watched a ted talk by Ron Finley. He has literally transformed his town into a garden! So cool and inspirational!
Apple cider vinegar is one of my new favorite things! It has a variety of benefits; in particular, it cleanses the colon. A tsp added to a water bottle or hot cup of water or tea (with honey) is a great way to consume it. It also can be used in homemade salad dressings or in juices. Just be careful not to add too much--it is really acidic!
One important part of our diets that is usually overlooked is incorporating fermented foods. One look at the word "Fermented" and we think trash can. However, people have been eating fermented foods for countless years and the benefits are obvious. Allowing the bacteria cultures help your gut with digestion. I have been buying the "Real Pickles" brand of fermented foods available at One Earth Food Store. Garlic Kraut (Fermented garlic and cabbage) was really good, and now I am trying fermented beets. Of course you can ferment your own foods, but if you are too short on time, buying them is essential!
